Perhaps it’s wise to be a bit wary of a pay-by-the-pound sushi spot, but I was somewhat surprised by Ricee. When you walk in, you’ll feel almost accosted by the fluorescent lights and all white, wide, minimalist order area. I almost turned right around, but I’m glad I stayed and gave it a try because it was a solid meal for $21.

You can fill up your container with as much as you can fit and it’ll cost you $24/pound. There’s a very nice selection that’s refreshed every 30 minutes, and the ability to mix-and-match is key. I was impressed that there were actual garnishes on the pieces. It wasn’t just basic tuna avocado and though some funkier stuff was on the buffet, it wasn’t only deep fried overly saucy rolls to mask low quality.

As far as quality goes, I thought it was both fresher and more varied than your standard grocery store or “cheap and fine in a pinch” spot. The rice on the nigiri was not my favorite, but that could also be because I was at the tail end of the 30 minute shift. I would say it was certainly better than half of the sushi I’ve had delivered – and for half the price.
